Psalm 50:2  Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined.

Beams of splendor shine forth upon all nations from this city of God, perfect in beauty by the Lord's indwelling.

The Psalms lead the believer to God in His person, His character and occupations.  The words to express our committed affection, holy desire, hop, sorrow or joy are found in these sacred songs. They lead our hearts and thoughts to Him and meet us where we are.

Philippians 2:5  Let that mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.

Souls are made sweet not by taking the acid fluids out, but by putting something in—a great love, a new Spirit, the Spirit of Christ. Christ, the Spirit of Christ, interpenetrating ours, sweetens, purifies, transforms all. This only can eradicate what is wrong, work a chemical change, renovate and regenerate, and rehabilitate the inner man. Will-power does not change men. Time does not change men. CHRIST DOES. Therefore, “Let that mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”¹

Psalm 139:1-6 You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up, You understand my though afar off. You compass my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, You know it altogether. You have beset me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

God has perfect knowledge of me, and all my thoughts and actions are open before Him. This God, my God, knows all things, is omniscient. He is everywhere, is omnipresent. God notices every step I take, right or wrong. He knows what rule I walk by, what end I walk toward, what company I walk with. He knows what is in my heart whether great longings or deep rejections. What amazing love this is! What amazing love that even as He knows me He would still die for me.

John 14:26 The Comforter, The Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.

Comforter - One who comes to the side of another that is a helper in time of need.

This Comforter we have been given is One who strengthens by companionship.

The Holy Spirit comes to your side to help, to give aid, to assist in every crisis, in every time of difficulty that may arise.

Jeremiah 32:17 Lord, You made the heavens and the earth with Your great power and Your outstretched arm.  Nothing is too difficult for You.

Galatians 1:3-5 May grace and peace from Gou our Father the Lord Jesus, The Messiah be yours!  He gave Himself for our sins in order to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father.  To Him be the glory forever and ever!

Grace = God's good-will towards us and His good work upon us.

Peace = All that inward comfort or outward prosperity, which is daily needed.

Grace and peace come from God the Father by way of the Fountain of Jesus Christ.  There can be no true peace without grace.  Jesus gave Himself for our sins to make atonement for us for the power of sin is so great that it could not by any other way, be put away except the Son of God be given for it.

By Him we are redeemed from the wrath of God and set free from wickedness that naturally enslaves us.

Galatians 1:4 Who gave Himself for our sins

Never forget what Jesus the Messiah suffered for our sins.  The One who is the Eternal Son of the Father, who was with The Father before all times, yet stooped in infinite grace to become man.  As man He did not cease to be God.  He is God and man in one glorious person, perfect, so that He could pay the debt that we owe to God.

It is settled.

Galatians 2:20  I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in teh flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

"The Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."   I pray that we would all say this over and over in our heart.  Jesus gave Himself in grace for needy sinners and He is Himself the righteousness of all who put their trust in Him.

Live this faith!

Philippians 1:6 I am convinced of this, that the one who began a good action among you will bring it to completion by the Day of the Messiah Jesus.

There is no doubt as to the final outcome for every true believer.  "The Lord always looks at His people as they will be when they are done."

Galatians 4:9 Now that you know God, or rather have been known by God, how can you turn back again to those powerless and bankrupt basic principles?  Why do you want to become their slaves all over again.

What one loves most and cares most for, that is his god.  Some have their riches, some pleasures, and some their lusts as their god.  Many worship a god of their own making and are in bondage to the elements of the world, slaves to worldly customs.

Romans 10:4 For the Messiah is the culmination of the Law as far as righteousness is concerned for everyone who believes.

Jesus Christ has fulfilled the whole law, therefore whoever believes in Him, is counted just before God.

Titus 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done but according to His mercy e saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

If you have felt the liberty of grace, why return to the bondage of religious slavery?  Thank God, He knows me, and knew about me in my sin, and He loved me and gave Himself for me!

Galatians 5:25  Since we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us be guided.

I am engaged in a conflict in which I earnestly desire that grace may bring me to a full and speedy victory against the corrupt nature which remains in me - that it would not have dominion over me.

Galatians 5:19-21 gives a whole daunting list of actions that can inhibit us from inheriting the Kingdom of God.  Are we not all doomed then?

Galatians 5:16  So I say, live by the Spirit and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh.

Romans 6:12 Do not let sin rule your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires.

Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Sprit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

I can never attain to a perfect newness of life in my own strength, but if I am yielded to the Holy Spirit of God and allow Him to make these things real in my life, I may cherish and cultivate Jesus Christ living in me, manifesting His life, His holy life, in and through the members of my body.

1 Peter 5:6-8 Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time God will exalt you.  Throw all your worry on Him because He cares for you.  Be Sober (clear-minded) and alert for your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

Humility will preserve your peace and order - pride will disturb it.  God gives grace to be humble and He will be  a greater comfort to the soul than the seeming gratification of pride and ambition.

Believe in His wisdom, power, goodness and timing.  Cast all your cares:  personal cares, family cares, cares for the present, cares for the future... on God.

Ephesians 4:31-32  Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, quarreling and slander be put away from you, along with all hatred.  And be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another just as God has forgiven you in the Messiah.

God's forgiveness causes us to forgive.  Except for the grace of God I find this nearly impossible.   But I fear grieving the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 4:30  Do not grieve the Holy Spirit

When I begin to slide down the slippery slope of anger and bitterness I must consider Psalm 4:4 - Be angry yet do not sin.  Think about this when upon your bed and be silent.

Get quietly into the presence of God and then you will be able to look at things from a right standpoint.

Let your thoughts fasten upon that which is good
Consider your ways and examine your own conscience with respect to what you have done in the day.
Repent and meditate upon God and things that bring peace.
Be still, be serious, be silent and wait for an answer when you have asked your conscience a question.
Put your trust in the Lord.

Anger and a refusal to forgive will only harm your own spiritual life.

John 14:6  Jesus told him (Thomas), I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Ephesians 1:13 You, too, have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.  When you believed in the Messiah, you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.

The Word of truth is the belt of the Mind.

Acts 17:11 [The Bereans] were more receptive than those in Thessalonica. They were very willing to receive the message, and every day they carefully examined the Scriptures to see if those things were so.

Like the Bereans, apply yourself seriously to the study of the Word and receive it with a ready mind and open heart.

Embrace Truth with Sincerity

Romans 12:1-2 In view of God's mercies, offer your bodies as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God for this is the reasonable way for you to worship.  Do not be conformed to this world but continually be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God's will is - what is proper, pleasing and perfect.

God and His perfect will for man - there is nothing else of significance in life except that.  the key to all reality is the intelligent human will responding affirmatively to the Will of God.  Through faith in Jesus Christ, the believer possesses the indwelling source of God's life from whom he is possessed with joy, fulfillment, and victory.

This is what I want to tap into.  Root causes that may be hidden, that go way back, are causing me to be bitter and angry and fearful..  As a result of never dealing with these causes correctly (sweeping things "under the rug," ) my symptoms cause me to be discouraged, depressed and wondering why God won't avenge me.

The next few days will be a study in Inner Transformation.  If I can choose to give over to God any root of bitterness, unforgiveness, unbelief, fear, (whatever God reveals to me), then His Life and His Love will flow through me in a new and powerful way.  As a result I will experience an intimacy with Him that I have not know before - experiencing more of His Love not only for myself but unconditionally  for others.

To be transformed I must renew my mind.

Colossians 3:8-10  ...get rid of anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene speech, and all such sins.  Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old nature with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new nature, which is being renewed in full knowledge consistent with the image of the One who created it.

This all sounds good and right but.. I can't do it.  And yet I know that if I don't get rid of these worldly impulses they will kill my spirit.  They will continue to bring me into despair over and over again.  How can I then be transformed?

Step One:  Cry out to God!

I must renew my mind. I know I have baggage in hidden chambers of my heart - anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, unbelief, fear, bad memories, sadness - it's a long list.  It weighs me down and causes me to sink in melancholy and despair.

Cry out to God and He will... make the waves become quiet and He will lead you into a safe haven!  (Psalm 107:30)

The next steps will guide be a shining light into those hidden chambers of the heart, rooting out the negative impulses and then dealing with them once and for all.

Preview the next steps by reading the following verses:
Psalm 51:6 See the truth of the inner person
2 Corinthians 10:5  Take every thought captive
Hebrews 4:12 Take up the Sword of the Lord - God's Word
Psalm 139:23  Search me O God and know my heart
Psalm 19:12 Cleanse me from hidden sin
Psalm 103:12 He removes my sis from me as distant as the east is from the west
1 Corinthians 13:4-7  The ultimate goal - that God's Love and Life would flow through me in a new and powerful way.

Psalm 51:6b You will teach me wisdom in my innermost parts.
Proverbs 28:13 Whoever hides his transgressions will not succeed, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will find mercy.

Good can only come from divine grace, overcoming corrupt nature, so willingly give God permission to walk through you and expose anything "not of faith."

Psalm 139:23 Examine me, God, and know my mind, test me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any offensive tendency in me, and lead me in the eternal way.

As the Lord knows me thoroughly, and I am a stranger to myself, I should earnestly desire and pray to be searched and proved by His Word and Spirit. If there is any offensive way in me, let me see it and root it out so I can walk through my days in peace and joy.

Ask God to expose hidden sins.

Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.

The Holy Scriptures are the Word of God. When God helps me understand the unpleasantness of my heart through His Spirit, it convinces powerfully, converts powerfully, and comforts me powerfully. His Word humbles the proud and makes meek the perverse. Sinful habits that have become natural to the soul and rooted deeply in it are separated and cut off by this sword. It will discover my thoughts and purposes, my capacity for vileness, and the wrong principles I am motivated by. The Word will show me all that is in my heart.

Psalm 19:12 Who can detect his own mistake? Cleanse me from hidden sin.

This step is a faith choice, a non-feeling choice, a choice I make out of obedience, not out of my feelings. God will align my feelings to match the choices along the way. And then the new behavior will be genuine, not a mask.
No matter what I think, how I feel, or the horrible circumstances I find myself in, God is working out His purposes in my life in His perfect way, and He will never allow anything to happen to me that is not Father-filtered.

Examine Your Commitment

In Romans 12:1, Paul urges us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God.        I therefore urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercies, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices that are holy and pleasing to God, for this is the reasonable way for you to worship.

In Matthew 16:24, Jesus urges us to take up our cross and follow Him. If anyone wants to follow Me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross and follow Me continually.

The cross is every trouble that falls upon us. Carrying a cross in Jesus' day meant facing the most painful and humiliating means of death. Jesus' call for us to take up our cross and follow Him today is a call to humble ourselves and surrender ourselves to His will. Absolute surrender to God means dying to self.

The call to take up our cross is tough, but the reward is beyond compare. Nothing in this world is worth passing up eternal life. I desire to walk in the same way Jesus walked, be led by His Spirit, and follow in His steps.

Are You Willing?

Are you willing to set aside your own self-centered ways, rights, frustrations, and offenses? Are you willing to let go of anger and bitterness hidden in your heart that hinders the Love and Life of God's flow through you?

If you are willing, that's all that is required. Be willing, and God will do the rest. I pray that God will do this work because I can't. Truly giving up your inner feelings to Him results in peace and joy in your inner life and is reflected in your outer life.

Philippians 3:7-15 Whatever things were assets to me, these I now consider a loss for the sake of the Messiah. What is more, I continue to consider all these things to be a loss for the sake of what is far more valuable knowing the Messiah Jesus, my Lord. It is because of Him that I have experienced the loss of all things. Indeed, I consider them rubbish in order to gain the Messiah.

I don't have to "feel" like letting go of inner offenses; I simply must be "willing" to give them over to God.

It isn't easy, I know! But ask yourself: Are you happy with your relationship with God? Are you happy with your relationships with others? Are you content with all your circumstances? Do you have peace and joy in your life?
If you answer no to any of these questions, that will make you to a willingness to exchange this old life for the new.

Old life:
Philippians 4:31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, quarreling, and slander be put away from you, along with all hatred.
New Life:
Philippians 4:32 Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another just as God has forgiven you in the Messiah Jesus.

In Psalm 40:12, David presents a frightful view of his sin: "Innumerable evils have surrounded me; my iniquities have overtaken me so that I cannot see. They are more in number than the hair on my head, and my courage has forsaken me."

If you find yourself undone by your trials and tribulations, consumed by self-centered thoughts and uncontrolled emotions. In that case, you have lost sight of a Redeemer who has triumphed over your spiritual enemies. Seek God and love His salvation. Rejoice in Him and praise His name. A prayer of faith can unlock His fullness to you. His promises are sure.

Father in heaven, I choose to set aside my thoughts, emotions and desires to follow Your word, Your will, and Your path for my life. Search me, and know my heart. Try me and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

2 Corinthians 8:11 Now finish what you began, so that your eagerness to do so may be matched by your eagerness to complete it.

Good purposes are like buds and blossoms, pleasant to behold and give hopes of good fruit; but good purposes are lost and signify nothing without performing them.

I have been will and have chosen to surrender my inner offenses to God. Now I must trust that God will perform His will and His life through me no matter how I feel or what I think.
God has asked me to set aside my emotional responses and act totally out of faith. Even if I'm not feeling this, I'm willing.

2 Corinthians 10:5-6 The weapons of our warfare are not those of the world.  Instead, they have the power of god to demolish fortresses.  We tear down arguments and every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God, taking every thought captive in order to obey the Messiah.  Once your obedience is complete we will be ready to reprimand every type of disobedience.

Examine your thoughts and if you find that they are not of faith, then those thoughts must be dealt with.  The battle for our lives is waged in our minds.  If Satan can get us to react emotionally, then he has us sidelined.  This is why taking every thought captive and dealing with the things that are bringing you down, like bitterness and anger, etc. immediately is so important.

If you find yourself saying, "Why, God?" you are at a point where you have allowed your circumstances to overwhelm and traumatize you.
Instead of saying, "Why, God?" say, "take my thoughts captive, O Lord!"   When you say this by faith, God is faithful to remove confusion, doubt, fear and anger and fill you with His peace and His strength.

There is a chain reaction that occurs from our thoughts:
Thought > emotions
emotions > desires
desires > actions

Catching your negative thoughts and dealing with them quickly requires constant discipline and effort and it *is* hard.  But I have found that it is the only way that works.   This brings us back to Romans 12:2 where we are urged to renew our minds.  Don't allow your wild thoughts and emotions to rule.  They only lead to confusion, discouragement and depression.

Philippians 4:8  Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is lovely, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy - keep thinking about these things.

Note:  I must include here a exhortation to not shove negative thoughts and feelings back into that hidden chamber of your heart.  The reason they may have come to mind is that it is something the Lord has shone a light on that you need to allow Him to deal with.

O Lord, You have shone the light on some issues in my life that have not been properly dealt with.  The result is anger and bitterness that will never go away.   I desperately do not want to be angry or bitter.  I know that it grieves Your Holy Spirit for me to be that way.   Since You have shone Your Light on this, I give it to You now and trust that You will lead me into the correct way of dealing with it once and for all.

Galatians 5:16 Live by the Spirit, and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh.
What are you feeling? Express yourself to God:
"I'm angry; I'm bitter; I feel betrayed; I'm hurt; I'm grieving; I'm fearful."
Name it so that you know what you're giving over to God.
Experiencing emotions before God (not in front of everyone!) is simply bringing what He has revealed as a root cause to Him and giving it over to Him. It's okay to bear your heart to God. It's okay to share your negative thoughts and feelings with Him - He sees it all anyway. Transparency in your private space with God is vital.
Facing our humanness and dealing with our sins is part of the healing process.
Choose not to follow these negative and emotional feelings but give them to God.
The consequence of hanging on to negative thoughts and feelings is that they eventually seep into our behavior. Hiding away all this baggage, bad memories, and anger do not make them disappear. Humbly ask God to expose what's hidden away, give to Him what He has exposed, and then experience the freedom of spirit as He sets you free from the bondage of these chains.
Galatians 5:16 Live by the Spirit, and you will never fulfill the desires of the flesh.
Learn this and live this.
Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Cherish and cultivate the good fruits, which are, through Jesus Christ, to the praise and glory of God.

Hebrews 10:22 Let us continue to come near with sincere hearts in the full assurance that faith provides, because our hearts have been sprinkled clean from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

There are times when I'm having a great day. Minding my own business, getting things done, and happy about it. But suddenly something will trigger a memory which has anger, resentment, fear or bitterness tagging along for the ride. . Unless I take hold of this quickly by recognizing where it came from and why, I will fall down a slippery slope of melancholy. My triggers may not always be a memory. It could be I was confronted with a hurtful remark or painful situation. My pride might have been hurt and I'm suffering humiliation. Sadness and melancholy ruin my day. I am the image of Isaiah 3:24 And it will come about that instead of fragrance there will be a stench.
I'm learning that if I take the following steps to get God involved, He is always faithful to show me a way back up that slippery slope.

See it for what it is

Confess sin and self and repent - turn away from following them
Give them over to God - anything that is "not of faith."
Replace lies with truth by reading and applying God's Word

Note: Unless we have Jesus in our hearts and have been born again by His Spirit (see John 3) these steps will not work. This is a process of restoration which taps into the power or life source of the Holy Spirit within that produces something different than our fleshly hearts think, feel and desire. With Jesus dwelling in our heart we have God's authority and God's power to override negative thoughts and feelings. In His time and His way, God will update my feelings with His will.

So now that we have taken this thought or situation captive we must analyze it and see it for what it is. Whatever you do, don't sweep it under the rug, don't push it back down into that hidden chamber of your heart. Take a good look at it, give it an name. Ask God to shed light on any root causes for the reaction and then allow God to give He feedback. Ask Him to expose the reality of these emotions.

Cleanse Yourselves in Holiness

2 Corinthians 7:1 Since we have these promises, dear friends, let's cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit by becoming mature in our holy fear of God.

Draw Near with a Sincere Heart

Hebrews 10:22 Let us continue to come near with sincere hearts in the full assurance that faith provides, because our hearts have been sprinkled clean from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

Experience Freedom

Psalm 103:12 As distant as the east is from the west, that is how far He has removed our sins from us.

What are the choices for dealing with negative thoughts and emotions?
Express them to others by venting in a toxic manner.
Pack it away back in it's hidden chamber - only for it to come out again at another time.
Give them to God and be rid of them forever.

Considering my goal is to be rid of the melancholy and depression that these negative thoughts cause, I choose number 3! I will recognize, acknowledge and be cleansed of them so that I can move on as an open vessel prepared for God's use in a more excellent way.

November 18, 2024

1 John 1:9 If we make it our habit to confess our sins, in His faithful righteousness He forgives us for those sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.

Confession is owning negative thoughts and emotions and acknowledging that what I have done, knowingly or not, has quenched the Holy Spirit within me.

1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 Do not put out the spirit's fire. Do not despise prophecies. Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good.

Believers are said to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire. (Matthew 3:11) He works as fire by enlightening, enlivening, and purifying the souls of men. As fire is put out by taking away fuel or quenched by pouring water upon it, I must be careful not to quench the Holy Spirit by minding earthly things and selfish desires. I will hinder my growth in grace by not giving myself up to the spiritual affections raised in my heart by the Holy Spirit.

The work of the Holy Spirit first convicts me of sin and my need for salvation (1 Thessalonians 1:5) I quench the Holy Spirit's fire when I ignore and reject His inner promptings.

John 16:8 When He comes, He will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

What are the results of my being convicted, confessing, and then repenting of sin that has been brought to light in my prayerful inquiries of God? I receive direction (Acts 13:2; 15:28), transformed circumstances (Philippians 1:19), encouragement (Acts 9:31), and power to share the gospel (Acts 1:8; 6:10). Being forgiven fans the flame of the Spirit to produce its fruit of "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness goodness, meekness, faithfulness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)

An Honest Note:  When I started this study, I intended to get rid of anger and bitterness from past hurts and pain inflicted upon me. How did this turn into confession, repentance, and forgiveness on *my* part? I can give God my hurts all day. I can pour out my heart and cry for relief. But I see now that I'm never really letting go of or giving over these hurtful situations to God to the point that *I* have become part of the problem myself. When I asked God to shine His light into the hidden chambers of my heart, well, He did, and I am sad to say there is a good bit of confessing and repenting that needs to occur; otherwise, this anger and bitterness will never go away. I am quenching and grieving the Holy Spirit by hanging on to the hurt and hoping He will someday avenge me.

What to do? Own these thoughts and emotions. I have chosen to harbor these feelings rather than give them over to God. This has quenched His Spirit in me, which is sin. I decide to turn around from dwelling on what these thoughts are telling me and choose instead to allow God to change my attitudes and feelings.

And then there's forgiveness. Unforgiveness is one of the many things that quench God's Spirit in me, and if I hold on to it, it will hinder God from working in and through me, but it can be so very difficult! I must trust God for His wisdom, love, and supernatural ability to forgive. If I do this, if I totally give myself over to Him, He will enable me to forgive others genuinely.

Matthew 6:14-15 If you forgive people their offenses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive people their offenses, your Father will not forgive your offenses.

Forgiveness and pardoning are two different things, though. It is my responsibility to forgive, but it is God's responsibility to judge them righteously. I'm sure He will do a better job of that than me!  Besides, Romans 12:17-18 says, Do not pay anyone back evil for evil, but focus your thoughts on what is right in the sight of all people.  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with all people.

How to be an Open Vessel for God's Love
Confess, Repent, Forgive

Luke 6:27 But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who insult you.

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 ...forgive...so that we may not be outsmarted by Satan. After all, we are not unaware of his intentions.

Proverbs 28:13 Whoever hides his transgressions will not succeed, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will find mercy.

This is a process that may take time. I must remember that I don't have to feel willing; I have to be willing.

The next step is giving it all to God.

Our Hope and Joy are in the Messiah

1 Peter 1:3-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah! Because of His great mercy He has granted us a new birth, resulting in an immortal hope through the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, from the dead and to an inheritance kept in heaven for you that can't be destroyed, corrupted, or changed. Through faith you are being protected by God's power for a salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of this era. You greatly rejoice in this, even though you have to suffer various kinds of trial for a little while, so that your genuine faith, which is more valuable than gold that perishes when tested by fire, may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus, the Messiah is revealed.

God's wise love often appoint sharp trials, to show the true nature of our hearts and to do bring them around to His purposes.  Faith is made firm, and multiplied by troubles and afflictions.

Seek to believe the excellence of Jesus Christ and His love for us.  This will kindle such a fire in the heart that the trial of faith will be found to praise, honor His glory.

1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight for the faith. Keep holding on to eternal life, to which you were called and about which you gave a good testimony in front of many witnesses.

Eternal life is the crown proposed for our encouragement. Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11) and take a stand against those negative thoughts and feelings that the devil schemes to bring you down with.

Let Go
Let go of weak faith. Have enough confidence in God to rest in the reality of His nature and have the peace that comes with a strong faith in Him.

Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God, that is, for those who are called according to His purpose, all things are working together for good.

Unless we understand the character of God, His Word, His works and His nature, we will struggle to have faith in His plan and purposes, His sovereign control over all circumstances in life and His love for us.

So in keeping with our steps to inner transformation and renewing our minds: take your thoughts captive, confront and deal with sin that is revealed, surrender yourself to God and trust that He is working all things together for good. Depend on His Word and meditate on His works and your faith will be renewed in His plan and purposes.

Philippians 4:7 Then God's peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your hearts and minds in union with the Messiah Jesus.

Let God
John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the branches. The one who abides in Me while I abide in him produces much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.

Luke 13:24 Keep on struggling to enter through the narrow door, because I tell you that many people will try to enter but won't be able to do so.

Strive to do the work of the kingdom, whatever form that takes in life. Use your spiritual gifts so that I can edify one another and bring God glory.

Romans 13:12  The night is almost over, and the day is near.  Let's therefore put aside the actions of darkness and put on the armor of light.

The spiritual garment is the Lord Jesus Christ. This means I let the Lord be my armor, embracing Him over and over, and daily trusting Him in faith, thankfulness, and obedience.

I put on Christ when my old ways are nailed to the cross (own, confess and repent of sin) and I wear the grace and forgiveness of Jesus as a glorious garment for all the world to see. A garment that says, "I'm forgiven and never to be forsaken of Him."

Putting on the armor of Light means following Jesus Christ as His disciple, letting my life be conformed to the image of Him (Romans 8:29) and renewing my mind with His Word. (Romans 12:2)

To achieve this inner transformation that I have been working toward, I must rely wholly on my righteous standing before god which is made possible through Jesus Christ. Romans 3:22; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Now abide in Jesus and live a beautiful expression of being one with the Messiah and being clothed with all the graces which are found in Him

Why Pray? You might as well ask, "Why breathe," or "Why eat,?" Destiny decrees that I should pray so I will pray. Destiny decrees that I will be answered therefore the answer will come to me.

Psalm 5:3 Lord, in the morning You will hear my voice; in the morning I will pray to You and I will watch for Your answer.

Luke 11:9-10 So I say to you: Keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep searching and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened for you. Because everyone who keeps asking will receive, and the person who keeps knocking will have the door opened.

So you come to the Lord in prayer first thing in the morning and He asks you, just as He asked Elijah (1 Kings 19:9)
"What are you doing here?" or just as Jesus asks, "What went did you go out to see?" (Matthew 11:7)

Isaiah 50:4 The Lord God has given me a learned tongue, so that I may know how to sustain the weary with words. And morning after morning He wakens me and He wakens my ear to listen like those who are being taught.Psalm 55:17 Morning, noon, and night, I mulled over these things and cried out in my distress, and He heard my voice.

Psalm 119:164 I praise You seven times a day because of your righteous ordinances.

Psalm 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.

The throne of grace is always open, and you are always welcome. You can be sure your prayer is heard so pray in the assurance of it, in assurance of faith, that wherever God finds a praying heart, He will be found a hearer of the pray-er.

James 5:16  The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Prayer is the way to exercise faith and hope.  The magnitude of my blessings are realized as I meditate on God's provisions, forgiveness, love, and the hope of heaven, my heart is filled with joy and peace and overflows with love and thankfulness for God. I want others to have this same hope, this same joy and peace, this eternal love from our Father in Heaven.

God's provisions:  Isaiah 42:5 This is what God says - the God who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its produce, who gives breath to the people on it and life to those who walk in it.
God's forgiveness:  1 John 2:12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of His name.
God's love: Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love for us even when we were dead because of our offenses, made us alive together with the Messiah (by grace you have been saved,) raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly realm in the Messiah Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might display the limitless riches of His grace that comes to us through His kindness in the Messiah Jesus.
Immortal hope:  1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah! Because of His great mercy He has granted us a new birth, resulting in an immortal hope through the resurrection of Jesus, the Messiah, from the dead and to an inheritance kept in heaven for you that can't be destroyed, corrupted or changed. Through faith you are being protected by God's power for a salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of this era.

A yearning for god, a desire for prayer, and a heart for people are characteristics of those who continually pray and trust that God answers each prayer according to His perfect will and timing.

Luke 12:24 - Consider the raven. They do not plant or harvest; they don't even have a storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than birds!

Since God hears the young ravens, will He not listen to you? Have you been praying for mercy but feel as though you have not received it? Have you gone on your knees in exceeding distress but still not found peace? Does sin still hang like a millstone around your neck? Do you sit in the valley of the shadow of death with no light of dawn upon you?

I encourage you never to give up. Pray and pray without ceasing.

Pour out your heart like water before the Lord.

The waves of turmoil and torment are great, but He has provided a way. Think of Jesus calming the storm, of Him walking on water to calm His disciples, of Peter walking on water to meet Him and then sinking, but Jesus reaches out to him and holds him up.
I will be Peter today, and when I start to sink - I will look up to Jesus and know that He will save me.

Lamentations 2:19: Get up and cry aloud in the night at the beginning of every hour. Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord!

Prayer itself is a salve for every sore, a remedy for every sickness. It is a directive to me to give my burdens to the Lord and then leave them with Him. His will be done.

Psalm 62:8 People, in every situation, put your trust in God; pour out your heart before Him; for God is a refuge for us.

Pour out your heart - trust in Him to guide you, especially when you are in doubt, to protect you when in danger, to supply you when you are in want, and to strengthen you for every good work. Pour it all out before Him. He is a refuge and shelter for all that come before Him and ask, seek and knock (Luke 11:9-10).

Psalm 126:5-6 Those who weep while they plant will sing for joy while they harvest. The one who goes out weeping, carrying a bag of seeds, will surely return with a joyful song, bearing sheaves from his harvest.

While we are in this world, there will always be a matter for prayer. I have found great sorrows to be succeeded by remarkable deliverance. Like a dream, Sorrow is gone, and the joy that follows is so great that it seems too good to be true. I store these times in my memory to never be forgotten. From trials and tribulations, from depression of spirit, and from temptations and doubt, I am set free, and my heart is grateful and amazed at the wonderful goodness of the Lord.

Job 23:3-4 If only I knew where to find Him, I would visit Him where He has taken His seat.
I would lay out my case before Him;
and fill my mouth with arguments.

Job desires the presence of God so that he might pray to Him. He desired to plead as before, one whom he knew would hear and help him. He longed to lay out his own case before the perfect and impartial Judge, in the presence of the all-wise God.

Pray Carefully and Thoughtfully

Before going to the Lord in prayer, lay out your case and be prepared to set forth your arguments to Him just as a petitioner comes into court well-prepared to state his case. Consider that you are about to address yourself to God. Feeling the reality of God's presence, my mind will be led by His grace into a humble attitude. (Gen 18:27)

Put Forward Your Case

Isaiah 41:21 Put forward your case! says the Lord. Submit your arguments! says Jacob's king.
KJV says, "Bring forth your strong reasons."

Feel the value of the mercy of God. State the reasons for your needing it.

The very act of prayer is a blessing. To pray is, as it were, to bathe in a cool, swirling stream and so to escape from the heat of earth's summer sun. To pray is to mount on eagle's wings above the clouds and get into the clear heaven where God dwells. To pray is to enter the treasure-house of God and to gather riches out of an inexhaustible storehouse. To pray is to grasp heaven in one's arms, to embrace the Deity within one's soul, and to feel one's body made a temple of the Holy Spirit.  ¹

I will take hold of the attributes of God - His justice, mercy, faithfulness, wisdom, and long-suffering,
I will take hold of all His promises in His word. He has said, "He will deliver you through six calamities, and calamity won't touch you through the seventh." Job 5:19

Psalm 27:8-9 My mind recalls Your word, "Seek My face," so Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide Your face from me; do not turn away in anger from your servant. You have been my help; therefore, do not abandon or forsake me, God of my salvation.

I will pray, "Father in heaven, by Your holiness, existence, justice, and mercy, if truly You are God, now show Yourself to be the help of Your people."
Jesus says in John 14:13, "I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

I am now left with nothing more than praise. If the Holy Spirit shows me how to order my cause and fill my mouth with argument, I will present my case to the Lord, and my heart will then be filled with His praises.

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Ephesians 3:14- 19 This is the reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its name. I pray that he would give you, according to His glorious riches, strength in your inner being and power through His Spirit and that the Messiah would make His home in your hearts through faith. Then, having been rooted and grounded in love, you will be able to understand, along with all the saints, what is wide, long, high, and deep - that is, you will know the love of the Messiah -which transcends knowledge, and will be filled with all the fullness of God.

"That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory." Grasp the scope of these words.

Provision:  You can come to God in prayer for anything. You do not need to fear to present your requests to God. You cannot ask too much. He can do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. (Philippians 4:19)
Empowered: Strength from the Spirit of God in the inner man; strength in the soul; the strength of faith to serve God and to do our duty.
Indwelled: Jesus abiding in us as a living, loving Lord, guiding and directing us for the glory of God.
Established: rooted and grounded in love - - love that is the great rock foundation on which we build - - God is love.
Enlightened: comprehending the width, length, and depth of the vast system of grace that God is working out through the ages of time, which will be perfected in the ages to come.
Expanded: Know the unknowable - The love of the Messiah which transcends knowledge.
Enriched: Filled with all fullness of God yet, "Behold the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee" (1 King 8:27)
Experience the Great Depth of Christ's Love.

If the law of Christ is written in our hearts and the love of Christ is shed abroad there, then Christ dwells there. Where His spirit dwells, there He dwells.

Fervently pray for God to strengthen your faith and grasp His love's expanse. He will answer you. He wants us to experience the great depth of His love.

1 John 5:4  Everyone who is born from  God has overcome the world.  Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.
Faith is the cause of victory, the way, and the spiritual weapon by which we overcome.   In faith, we cling to Jesus, in contempt of and in opposition to the world.  Faith sanctifies the heart, purifies it, and has the indwelling Spirit of grace.
Overcome or be overcome.
Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not depend on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
2 Corinthians 12:9 He has told me, "My grace is all you need because my power is perfected in weakness."
An overcomer is:
a follower of Jesus Christ who successfully resists the power and temptation of the world's system
is not sinless, but holds fast to faith in Jesus until the end
does not turn away when times get difficult
one who requires complete dependence upon God for direction, purpose, fulfillment, and strength to follow His plan for their lives.
What does it take to overcome?
James 4:7  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Ephesians 4:30  Do not grieve the Holy Spirit, by whom you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption.
Galatians 2:20  I no longer live, but the Messiah lives in me, and the life that I am now living in this body I live by the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Mark 13:13  You will be hated continuously by everyone because of My name.  But the person who endures to the end will be saved.
Therefore,
Romans 8:35-38 Who will separate us from the Messiah's love?  Can trouble, distress, persecution, hunger, nakedness, danger, or a violent death do this?  As it is written, "For your sake, we are being put to death all day long.  We are thought of as sheep headed for slaughter."  In all these things, we are triumphantly victorious due to the One who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor anything above, nor anything below, nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is ours in union with the Messiah Jesus, our Lord.
Rewards to those who overcome:
eat from the Tree of Life (Revelation 2:7)
unharmed by the second death (Rev 2:11)
eat from hidden manna and given a new name (Rev 2:17)
given authority over nations (Rev 2:26)
clothed in white garments (Rev 3:5)
made a permanent pillar in the house of God (Rev 3:12)
sit with Jesus on His throne (Rev 3:21)
And now, Victory
1 Corinthians 15:57-58    Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus the Messiah.  Be steadfast, unmovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that the work that you do for the Lord isn't wasted.

Romans 5:3-5 Not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. Now this hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

I have been counseled in the past, when I am feeling sad or unhappy, to think of five things for which I am thankful. I know that I have much to be thankful for, a roof over my head, a nice bed and food on the table, but
I don't seem to be enjoying all that very much because of my other hardships and circumstances that are definitely not enjoyable

In 2 Corinthians 11:23-29 Paul summarizes his trials by listing the trails and hardships he faced which included being beaten three times, pelted with stones three times, shipwrecked, endangered from rivers, robbers and his own people as well as Gentiles, sleepless nights, hunger, thirst, many periods of fasting, coldness, and nakedness. In Acts 16 Paul and Silas where stripped of their clothes and ordered to be beaten with rods. They were then thrown into the inner cell of the jail and their feet fastened in leg irons. What did Paul and Silas do? They prayed and sang hymns to God, edifying and encouraging the other prisoners.

It astonishes me to reflect on these accounts of Paul's dangers, hardships, and sufferings, and to observe his patience, perseverance, diligence, cheerfulness, and usefulness, in the midst of all these trials. It makes me think twice about complaining about my current circumstances. I will study here patience, courage and trust in God. I will learn to think less of myself and find ways to honor God in all things.

No trouble, however severe, should hinder me from praise.

Psalm 51: 6 Create in me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me

Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, "My intentions are pure; I am clean from any sin?"

Jeremiah 13:27 I've seen your detestable behavior: your adulteries, your passionate neighing, your lewd immorality on the hills in the field. How terrible it will be for you

Ezekiel 11:19 then I'll give them a united heart, placing a new spirit within them. I'll remove their stubborn heart and give them a heart that's sensitive to me.

The carnal heart, like a stone cannot be made to feel. I'm living among the dead and dying.
I ask that my heart be made tender and fit to receive impressions from God. It is Your work O Lord, it is Your gift by promise and I beg you for a happy change wrought by those promises - from death to life. I am in great need of these blessings - - in the name of Jesus Christ the Messiah, I ask for these promises in prayer.

I ask for a heart firmly fixed for God and not wavering. I ask to be made holy, to have a new spirit, a new temper and disposition; to act from new principles, walk by new rules, and aim at new ends. A new name, will not serve without a new spirit.

Where is Your Holy Spirit today O Lord? I am saved just as I am. (Acts 15:8-10)

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's masterpiece, created in the Messiah Jesus to perform good actions that God prepared long ago to be our way of life.

It was His purpose, to which He prepared us, by blessing us with the knowledge of His will, and His Holy Spirit producing such a change in us, that we should glorify God by our good conversation, and perseverance in holiness.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 May our Lord Jesus, the Messiah Himself, and may God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good action and word.

God, even our Father, has loved us.

I can imagine the Lord's love to His disciples, His mother, the apostles, martyrs and great men of God, but it says here that the Lord Jesus Christ, Himself God, should love me, is something to contemplate!

If I take it Galatians 2:20 I see - "Who loved me and gave Himself for me," it is a fact that I am the object of divine affection.
